ELCA project - brief introduction
The Polytechnic University of Timișoara (UPT), together with its partners - People in Need (PIN) and ASD's (Gesellschaft für Nachhaltige Entwicklung, GNE) - is implementing the project "Empowering Local Climate Action - ELCA" from February 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026. The project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Climate Protection within the European Climate Initiative (EUKI), focuses on capacity building in climate protection management. The ELCA project targets community members, local businesses, NGOs, and government officials involved in managing climate challenges and achieving climate resilience through the implementation of specific plans and strategies.
To support these efforts, the Climate Action Support Center (CSAC) will be established within the Polytechnic University of Timișoara. This center will play a role in supporting the development and implementation of local climate action plans. Experts employed at this center will provide specialized assistance in areas such as climate data analysis, climate scenario modeling, and the identification of green technologies needed for achieving climate resilience. CSAC will also offer assistance and guidance on funding opportunities and project management skills to overcome implementation challenges.
The UPT team has a budget of over 160,000 euros and is coordinated by S.l. Dr. Habil. Ing. Rareş Hălbac-Cotoară-Zamfir.
